Music Video To Be Shot First Week Of October In Nyc
Britney Spears laughs at the thought that she could've found time for a break recently. '[Only] if you call three weeks a hiatus,' she said. 'I've been recording my booty off.' As her forthcoming In the Zone (formerly Get in the Zone) nears completion, the pop star is working her booty overtime, already mapping out plans for remixes galore of her first single, 'Me Against the Music,' featuring Madonna. The RedZone-produced track has been sent to several producers, including Outkast and Madonna mixer Peter Rauhofer. 'We've hooked up [again], but I've learned not to talk about my personal life,' Britney said of Madonna, laughing. 'But basically that song is about just being in a club and being oblivious to everyone and just zoning out and just freestyling. And it's me and that beat.' Spears has been known to hit the New York clubs to let DJs preview her new songs, and she even performed a surprise nightclub act in Las Vegas earlier this month. For the most part, though, the new tunes have been kept tightly under wraps. 'My music hasn't been out,' she said. 'I've been recording the whole time. It's like a big deal for me. It's my baby.' In her Vegas act, Spears previewed 'Breathe on Me,' which earned more of the trip-hop comparisons her new work has been getting while also emphasizing the sensuality she's been hinting at recently. 'It's very vibe-y, trance-y,' she said. '['Breathe on Me'] is basically about being with a guy and not even having to really be with each other, but just the intensity and the anxiety between not saying anything. You don't even have to touch me, just breathe on me.' The most erotic song, however, in Spears' new repertoire just might be 'Touch of My Hand'. 'I think it's tastefully done,' Spears said of the track. 'And I think it's real. It's nice and it's real. It's whatever your take is. Some people may think it's a little much, but that's where I'm at with my life. ... It's not freaky freaky, it's just a little freaky.' Spears has been putting forth a more adult image in print as well, posing nude for a New York Times Magazine fashion spread and appearing topless in Elle UK and Rolling Stone. The upcoming issue of Esquire promises to be equally racy, with a teaser in this month's issue that she'll be 'wearing nothing more than her smile.' 'As far as photo shoots go, W, Rolling Stone, whatever, the pictures are really sexy,' she said, 'but actually, when I did the photo shoots, I was sometimes in ball gowns and nice dresses, and of course they used the pictures where I'm half nude. ... The one [on the cover of Rolling Stone], that was my first time ever to be on the cover of a magazine and not have my top on. 'People like the pictures, I like the pictures, but I hate the interview,' she continued. '[Writer Mark Binelli] was so rude, I almost got up and left. He made me come across in such a horrible light. You suck, reporter! And I'm not afraid to say that, because he was really wrong. He hurt my feelings. And I wouldn't even bring it up because I'm giving him my energy and he doesn't deserve my energy. I went on a rampage. Sorry about that.' Going on a rampage that, too, is part of the new, more adult Britney. 'I know to speak up more,' she said, 'and I know what I want more. There's so much going on in my world, behind the music, you have to be more involved.' A video shoot for 'Me Against the Music' is slated for early October in New York, and the clip is set to premiere October 13 on 'Making the Video.' In the Zone drops November 18.

Britney Introduces Bhangra (Indian Flavor) In 4th Album
Britney Spears is hoping to reinvent herself again. She has turned to Indian bhangra rhythms for her comeback song out later this year. The song features Spears singing and rapping over music and rhythms from rural India and has been remixed by British Asian producer Rishi Rich - himself celebrating a top 20 hit in the UK this month with Dance With You (Nachna Tere Naal). Rich has previously remixed songs for Westlife, Ricky Martin and Craig David. "The Britney song came to me as a really commercial pop song," Rich told BBC World Service's The Music Biz
programme. "The song was great, but what I sent back to them is a real street edge with a bit of Asian influence."

Reinvented Britney
The Indian influence is the latest change for Spears, who has previously gone from pop princess in pigtails
to sex kitten. Rich persuaded Craig David to sing in Punjabi on a successful remix. Spears - who has had a year off to reinvent herself - is described as being "over the moon" with the record. "I actually didn't want to put too much Asian in it, because I wasn't sure what they wanted," Rich said. "Steve Lunt, who was the A&R for the records in New York, just went 'we want more, just put all in - we'd rather you put it all in, then we can take little bits out'." "That's what he wanted - he wanted the full Asian thing." Rich said that while bhangra had been established in the UK for a while, it has only just begun influencing music in the US and therefore Spears would be seen as at the cutting edge of musical change there. "Bhangra in America has just kicked off, and it's not as big as it is here," Rich said. "People are loving the sounds and they want that sound."

Passing phase?
Rich added that he felt the demand from music bosses for bhangra-flavoured hits was a response to the huge amount of manufactured music dominating the mainstream. Mis-teeq dropped Rich's work from their last album "If I step back from the industry, I'm sick of all this Pop Idol/ Fame Academy stuff because it's all just bland music," he said. "I think that you need something that is going to be more innovative. I think just generally if you mix Asian music - with Egyptian music or Spanish music or pop music - you get a different sound. "I think that's what people are looking for now. Gareth Gates' new single is like a Spanish song - it's an R&B kind of thing because people are looking for something different now." While bhangra's recent explosion into the UK mainstream may not last, Rich is simply happy it is now getting the exposure and airplay it deserves. "A year ago I did a bhangra track for Mis-teeq - but it didn't go on the album," he said."I bet the record company are regretting that now. But at the time it wasn't happening. "It could be a passing phase, but for me I'm not worried because I know that's not just what I do."

Rumor: Matm To Be Released As A Remix
Due to Madonna's involvement in the project, we might get to hear a much different Me Against The Music (MATM) track than what we are used to. At Tribal House Producer/DJ Peter Rauhofer's official site there is a brief news post about how he's currently working on the remix. He has in the past remixed for Madonna's past 3 albums, and as well as Christina Aguilera's 'Beautiful'.

4th Album To Contain Song About Make-Up Sex
The way Spears talks these days, it seems like Madonna might've shared more than saliva with her during their now-notorious MTV make-out session. On her forthcoming album, Britney rips a page from the Middle-Aged Material Woman's playbook, redefining herself to stay relevant. ''She opened the door for every woman out there to have balls and believe in herself,'' the spicy-tongued Spears says of her pop progenitor, who's featured on first single ''Me Against the Music.'' Though eclectic, the disc has a more mature sound, dominated by slinky lounge beats and forays into dancehall and trip-hop. ''It's moody and vibey,'' says Spears, who helped pick the CD's diverse producers, including Moby and the Matrix. ''It's the kind of music where you want to light candles and listen to it with a partner.'' Lyrically, the album represents Spears at her boldest. ''Showdown,'' she says, is ''about make-up sex,'' while the R. Kelly-produced ''Outrageous'' features the once-celebrated virgin moaning about ''my sex drive'' and, curiously enough, a ''trench coat in my underwear.'' ''R. Kelly wrote that and he brought his own ghetto slang,'' Spears explains, offering that it might be a reference to a thong. ''I'm at a place where I can express myself a little more and say things that are a little more adult because I'm getting older.'' ''Brave New Girl'' features Britney's first attempt at rapping. ''The track was so bangin','' she enthuses. ''I said 'Let's just do this!' and I started rapping.'' As jam-packed as the CD is, there are some big omissions. Gossip columnists will rue the lack of response to Justin Timberlake's reported Spears snipe ''Cry Me a River.'' And there's nothing produced by Fred Durst, whose studio work with Spears spawned rumors of a hookup. ''Oh, no! God, no!'' she says when asked if Durst made the cut. ''That was just an experiment.''

Madonna - Britney Kiss Angers Fleetwood Mac Singer
Stevie Nicks rates the notorious Madonna-Britney kiss as the most obnoxious television moment ever.'First of all, Madonna is too old to be kissing someone who is 22,' the Fleetwood Mac singer told the Herald Sun. 'And Britney should be smarter than that. Hopefully, she will figure a way out of this hole she has dug for herself.' Original rock chick Nicks, 55, said Spears and Christina Aguilera should wear more clothes and try writing decent songs. 'I personally have never been to a strip club, but I turn on MTV and see in every single video what it must be like to be at a strip club,' Nicks said. 'I think the mystery is gone, and if you have no mystery, then you aren't even sexy. 'Real sexuality and sensuality is in the music, and all these girls, vis-a-vis, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and on and on, should go back to writing songs and start over because it won't last and they won't last. 'When they are 55, they won't be around and that's sad because I think a lot of those girls are very talented. But they are signing their own death warrants.' Nicks was appalled by Madonna's publicity stunt kiss with Spears at the recent MTV Awards. 'I thought it was the most obnoxious moment in television history,' she said. 'Madonna will be fine. Madonna is Madonna. She does what she wants. She will get over this. But will Britney get over it? I don't know.' Nicks revealed Madonna asked Jennifer Lopez to be in the smoochy routine, but J.Lo told Madge to kiss something else. Nicks is the ultimate rock survivor, weathering drug addictions, depression and a tumultuous relationship with Lindsey Buckingham. Fleetwood Mac performs at Rod Laver Arena on February 23. Tickets go on sale on Monday.

Britney Gets What She Wants
There is one person who is particularly delighted with Britney Spearss transformation from girl next door to sex siren the singer herself. Britney, who masterminded her own image change, said: Its sensual, its sexual. Im not doing Baby One More Time and those massive hits any more. The 21-year-old star pictured above at a New York fashion show on Wednesday revealed her amazing new look last month in a sizzling photoshoot for the American magazine W. Gone were the pigtails and prim schoolgirl style, replaced by heavy make-up, long blonde wig and raunchy outfits. Her raunch factor was boosted even further when she snogged Madonna on stage at last months MTV Awards. Then last week she completed her change by appearing topless on the cover of US magazine Rolling Stone. The big switch has been a long time coming. Close friends say Britney has been determined to lose her sugary-sweet image and has done her best to to be seen behaving badly. But the tactic has turned out to be a career gamble. One friend said: People were shocked when they saw pictures of Britney puffing on cigarettes and enjoying boozy nights out. But she knew there was only so long she could be the schoolgirl of pop. If she didnt show people she was growing up she feared shed just be another washed-up child star. She was on a mission to become this wild, dangerous young woman and didnt think about the consequences for her career. Suddenly she was struggling to get a Top Ten hit and she was surrounded by bad Press. But Britney, who now has four tattoos, remained hell-bent on shedding her demure, Southern belle tag. She said: Yes, Ill go out and have a good time why shouldnt I? And just like anybody else my age I have woken up the next morning and said, Whoo, that was a crazy night. But things went further with Britney even hinting she had dabbled with drugs. She said: Lets just say you reach a stage in your life when you are curious. And I was curious at one point. But Im way too focused to let anything stop me. Was it a mistake? Yes. Pals say the break-up of her parents marriage and her own failed relationship with Nsync singer Justin Timberlake led to Britneys erratic behaviour. She has said her four-year relationship with Justin ended because of their pressurised careers despite rumours that he dumped her after she cheated on him. Britney said: I was completely heartbroken. It was like, What do I do now? It was the hardest thing Ive had to deal with. It took me months to get over it. I finally realised it was over when Id hear him sing on the radio or hear people say his name and my heart wouldnt start fluttering. Justin never proposed to me and I didnt cheat on him.And on her parents split she has said: Its sad but you can fall out of love. Trust me, I know, Ive been there. Its really weird how one minute you can be so in love with someone and then its gone, just like that. Britney also lost confidence after she was dropped as the face of Pepsi and found her singles struggling to make the Top Ten. It followed her admission that she is not a virgin a rumour she had played along with for years. The Britney Roadshow was coming to an abrupt end but only after a wonderful honeymoon. At 15, Britney signed a record deal and the following year her worldwide hit Baby One More Time was released. Since then she has become a household
name, selling 37 million albums and earning £100million. As with all pop divas, Britneys success has been driven by her sheer determination. She put on a butter-wouldnt-melt face for fans, but behind the scenes she knew and got exactly what she wanted. She has an entourage bigger than her old class at school, two mansions and a private jet. While on tour, she fines local concert promoters the equivalent of £3,300 if any outside caller gets through to the private phone in her dressing room. She also insists on a large bowl of chocolate bars, a supply of tuna salads with Hellmanns mayonnaise, Pop Tarts and Doritos crisps. But it seems that Britneys diva demands and single-mindedness have paid off, as she finally achieves the sex siren persona she craved for so long. Her friend said: Its been a rocky road but, as always, Britney has got what she wants. Kissing Madonna and posing topless on a magazine cover were all part of her plan to be taken seriously as an adult. But she is very much aware that she still has to prove herself as a grown-up singer. The lyrics to Britneys next single, Outrageous, are an obvious attempt to do just that. She breathlessly urges: Would you undo my zipper please? Oh its so hot and I need some air. Boy dont stop cause Im halfway there. Sounds like the girl really has grown into a woman.

Madonna Surprised At Attention VMA Kiss Received
Madonna claimed in an interview with Oprah Winfrey she cannot understand why her open-mouthed kiss with Britney Spears has caused such a stir. "I don't know why people are making such a big deal about it," she said. "Hasn't anyone seen two girls kiss before? It was a friendly kiss - it really was. If Britney looks as though she is kissing me in an aggressive way it was a surprise to me." She added, "I'm a showgirl. After 20 years in the business, we learn to roll with the punches. If someone comes to you with lips parted you have to kiss them."

Official News: Album Title Is 'Get In The Zone'
Britney Spears is hooking up with Madonna once again this time for the first single from her forthcoming album, now titled Get in the Zone. Though Spears was coy about what the first single would be when MTV News talked to her following her NFL Kickoff Live performance, it turns out that the song she previewed that night, "Me Against the Music," will indeed be her first released track, featuring Madonna. The duo, of course, most recently caused controversy when they locked lips at the MTV Video Music Awards. The single co-written by Spears and produced by RedZone ships to radio on September 30, with a video set to premiere on MTV on October 13. Get in the Zone will feature 13 tracks in all, seven of which were co-written by the singer. Some of the tracks slated to be on the album include "Early Mornin' " (produced by Moby), "Outrageous" (R. Kelly), "Every Time" (Guy Sigsworth), and "Showdown" (Bloodshy & Avant). There's no word yet if the new track Spears unveiled this weekend in Las Vegas, "Breathe on Me," will also make the final track listing. Other songs that could be included on Get in the Zone are "The Answer" (P. Diddy), "Shadow" (the Matrix), "Brave New Girl," and "Touch of My Hand," the latter two of which she previewed for MTV earlier this year.
Get in the Zone is due out November 18.

Britney'S Japanese Stalker Comes Back For Another Round
Oops, he did it again...and now he's gonna pay.
Britney Spears went back to court this week to get a restraining order against a Japanese man she claims has been stalking her, her reps confirmed Friday. Spears was granted a restraining order on Monday against Masahiko Shizawa, a businessman who has allegedly been too much of a slave 4 the popster. This is the second time Britney has been forced to sic her legal eagles on Shizawa. Earlier this year, she retracted her initial request for a restraining order after she reached an out-of-court agreement with the man in which he promised to stop calling and faxing her with remarks like "I'm chasing you." But, according to Camp Britney, Shizawa "violated the terms," forcing her to obtain a permanent restraining order. According to a publicist for Spears, the 43-year-old Shizawa has not given up his fixation on the 21-year-old Madonna smoocher. In recent months, he has resumed faxing and writing notes to the platinum popster. In one missive, Shizawa writes, "There remains serious personal issues to be resolved [between us]," according to the syndicated TV show Celebrity Justice. Another message reads, "I hope to find a job around her."  Such evidence was enough to sway Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Alan B. Haber, who barred Shizawa from contacting Spears and coming within 300 yards of the entertainer. The judge has set a court date to decide whether to make the order permanent on Sept. 29. When Spears first lashed out at Shizawa last December, the man's attorney, Simon Robert Hiller, maintained that his client has been mislabeled a stalker, when in fact the intimate letters, photos and unsolicited visits were the actions of an "avid fan" and said the request for a restraining order was the result of a "cultural misunderstanding." The so-called misunderstanding included, according to Britney's peeps, Shizawa "tracking" Spears beginning in September 2002, shadowing her from her homes in Los Angeles, where he allegedly tried to bust in, and New York to her divorced parents' domiciles in Louisiana, all the while sending her hundreds of love letters and photos. Since Spears filed her original request, Shizawa's visa has expired and he has been forced to return to his hometown of Yokohama, Japan. Hiller, who called his client a "smart guy," said the computer programmer hopes to return to the U.S. once his legal woes are resolved.

BRITNEY SPEARSs girl dancers tear her top off to reveal a tight bikini at a surprise gig that featured new material and a couple of hits. Branded with the initials BS across the back of her jeans, Brit took to the stage for a raunchy show in high-heel boots for the secret live trial of tracks from her as-yet untitled album. pening with Me Against The Music the audience were amazed at the new-look Britney as she started her set by writhing on a bloke from her entourage.

She then went into the second number from her next record, called Breathe On Me, as her dancers peeled off her T-shirt at the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas. She finished the show surrounded by her group with a medley of favourites Im A Slave 4 U and .... Baby One More Time.

Raunchy ... Brit writhes with dancer
Britney jetted to Vegas from California, where she had been hoping to see pals JENNIFER LOPEZ and BEN AFFLECK tie the knot. As we all know, that never happened. Aides advised Brit to cancel her booking at the swanky Four Seasons Biltmore resort in Santa Barbara, but she decided to go ahead and pamper herself.

New look ... Britney grooves
She checked in under a false name the night before the wedding-that-never-was then spent what would have been her confetti-chucking hours the next day racking up the spending on her credit card. She spent loads of money in flash department store Nordstrom, buying clothes and perfume. Theres nothing like retail therapy to get over the disappointment of cancelled nuptials.

Britney's Stripping Continues
In the new issue of Esquire (with Christina Aguilera on the cover), the magazine has a small tidbit about next month's issue, saying Britney Spears will be inside, "wearing nothing more than her smile."
*I think is about time Brit shows some skin! I mean, if Christina can pose butt-ass naked in the cover of Rolling Stone, why can't Brit pose particle nude on Rolling Stone? People are making a big deal about and really, its not that big of an issue! Go on w/ya bad self girl!!!!!*

Taryn Manning'S Politically Correct Lashings On Britney
Q: When you made the movie with Britney, did she steal any of your looks?

A: I mean, I don't want to call her out because that's not cool, but she did get the same tattoo as me in the same place.

Q: The Japanese writing above your bikini line?

A: Yeah. Something funny happened recently, though. I thought it said 'mysterious,' but I just left Tokyo and found out it says 'strange.' I think it's great that she has it, too, and I told her it said 'mysterious.' She was like, 'Oh, that's great. I love that.' And now when someone Japanese reads it they're going to know I was bull-- her.

Q: I guess that puts the whole same-hat thing in perspective.

A: I wasn't mad because I thought it was really cute and endearing that she's a little younger than me and there was something about me that sparked her interest, whether it was because I was writing my own songs or I was a singer. We became pretty good friends, so I wasn't mad. But I was kind of bummed that she came on set the very next day and was like, 'Look at my new tattoo, everyone!' And she didn't say it was just like mine. She was trying to bask in my Japanese-writing glory.

Men Are Women'S Bitch
Despite an apparent cease-fire to the mudslinging between Fred Durst and Britney Spears, the Limp Bizkit frontman just can't seem to say enough about the sexy singer. Onstage Saturday at a free concert in London's Finsbury Park, Durst introduced the tune "Break Stuff" by taking a swipe at the pop star. At the opening of the Significant Other single with the prophetic line, "It's all about the he said, she said bullsh--," Durst made his proclamation. "How many people out there have had one of those f---ed-up days?" he asked the crowd. "I can remember quite a few f---ed-up days just recently, and I think I spent those days with that f---ing bitch Britney Spears." Durst and Spears had collaborated on some tracks for her new album, and talk of a soured romantic affair soon spread like butter in August. It's still not known whether Spears' collaboration with Durst will appear on her next album, due November 25. "Her label had called me and said Britney's trying to be shocking and different and daring," he said of the pairing during a press conference before the show. "So we get in the studio, and it was my way of seeing if we had chemistry at all and if I thought she was cool or this crazy, dumb little pop girl with this great ass."

Britney, Like, Savors Smooch With Madonna
So, how did Britney Spears' parents react when the 21-year-old pop star locked lips with Madonna on the MTV Video Music Awards?

"Well, my mom liked it actually. I was really kind of nervous! I was like, 'Oh my God, my mom . . . she's going to see this!" Spears tells Access Hollywood.

"But no, she liked it! And my dad, weirdly enough, he thought it was fine, too."

OK. That's just creepy.

"I mean, come on . . . it's Madonna. If you can kiss any girl in the world, that has to be her," Spears said, revealing that she had butterflies before the smooch on the Aug. 28 awards show in New York City.

Spears said the kiss was Madonna's idea: "She threw it around a couple times in rehearsals. She just kind of said, 'You know, do what you feel in the performance . . . just go with it and see how what happens,' and that's kind of what happened."

Who's the better kisser? Madonna or Colin Farrell? "Oh, my gosh!" Spears exclaims. "They're both amazing kissers!"

Britney Talks New Album But Remains Hushhush On First Single
Britney Spears debuted the first full song off her upcoming record Thursday on ABC's "NFL Kickoff Live," but despite the primetime unveiling, "Me Against the Music" isn't necessarily going to be the new disc's first single.

Wearing a cropped referee's shirt, Spears sang a medley of "... Baby One More Time" and "I'm a Slave 4 U" after finishing the RedZone-produced song dance tune, which features a near rap and tribal rhythms. "Dance all night," she exhorts on the song, demanding that "All the people in the crowd, grab a partner, take it down/ All my people in the crowd, let me see you dance."

Speaking to MTV News prior to her performance, Spears would only confirm that a video shoot for the first single is taking place in the next two weeks. "I can't tell you what the first single is going to be," Spears said, "but there are some surprises that are going to come up in the song that I'm really excited about."

One of her producers, P. Diddy, spoke to MTV News last week about a song he was working on with Spears, but at the time it had no title. This week it does: "The Answer."

"I was very impressed with [Diddy]," Spears said. "He's very family-man-oriented, he brought his kids in. His studio and the people he works with, the people he does tracks with, are, like, amazing. He's a cool guy."

Spears also had high praise for Moby, who worked with her on the mid-tempo "Early Morning."

"He's such a pure-hearted guy," she said. "He's so cool. He just played me a really cool track, and I thought it was brilliant. I just came up with stuff to go over it, and I hope he likes it. I don't know if he's heard it yet, but I like it. It's one of my favorite tracks on the record."

The track is a day-after hangover song, balancing other party-hard tunes that might make the album. "Some songs are just written generally about going out and wanting to have a good time," she said. "I was writing about a lot of stuff in general going out with my girlfriends, everyday experiences I was going through.

"Like, 'Early Morning' is basically talking about just going out and feeling bad the next day, and 'Touch of My Hand' is about, you know, touch of my hand," she continued. "You'll have to hear the song and get your own interpretation of what you think it's about. Other songs are just very sensual, very sensual songs."

A single girl for the past year, Spears said she's trying hard not to let anything from her romantic life influence the record.

"Some people choose to put on their records stuff that's very, very personal to them. It's just my personal opinion, but that's exposing yourself a little bit too much. I don't feel comfortable doing that. So, my personal life? I've learned my lesson is to just keep it to yourself. I don't think it's cool to do that at other people's expense, if you understand what I'm trying to say. That's not what it's about for me personally. Some people, they like to bring other things into it, and that's fine. They've got to go to bed with that at night."

Right now, the main thing on Spears' mind is keeping things off her mind, so she can focus on completing the album.

"I'm thinking about it now, like, 'Oh my God, you know what? I can't think about it,' " she said. "You just have to do it, let it come out, and pray people like it. Honestly, when you're in the studio, all you can do ... is just go inside yourself, and trust me, I've had time to do that. You just really go there and do what feels right. And it's not about selling 50 million records. It's just expressing myself the way I want to express myself, and as long as you do that and you're happy with that, that's all that matters."

No track list is available for the as-yet-untitled album, since Spears is still recording, her label spokesperson said.

Rumor: Britney'S Debut Single
Britney Spears unveiled her brand new single, 'Me Against The Music', at the NFL Kickoff Live concert in Washington DC last night, dotmusic can report. The pop princess performed at the televised show alongside the likes of Mary J Blige and Good Charlotte and debuted the new track before launching into a medley of older hits. The first track to be lifted from Britney's new album, 'Me Against The Music' is an uptempo call-to-arms that begins with the chanted introduction, "All the people in the crowd/Grab a partner/Take it down". Though much has been made of Britney's new 'mature' direction, the new single is not drastically different to her older material and is arguably reminiscent of the singer's 2001 hit, 'I'm A Slave 4 U'. Dressed in a black trousers and a black and white striped top, Spears was joined on stage by around 20 dancers dressed in NFL tops, though her own dance routine was minimal.  Video footage of the performance also suggests that Britney opted to lip-synch along to a backing track instead of sing the song live. According to reports in today's tabloids, 'Me Against The Music' will be released in the UK on November 3, with the album set to follow on November 17.

Madonna'S $15,000 Gift To Britney - Christina Empty Handed
It's the peck that left Justin stunned and the crowd screaming. Now, Madonna and Britney's lip lock at the MTV Video Music Awards is Us Weekly's cover story. Ken Baker, Us Weeklys west coast executive editor, tells "Extra" this mouth to mouth is resuscitating debate on just who is Hollywood's hottest pair.

Baker says, "They have been long-time admirers and, in the weeks leading up to the VMAs, they became very close friends."

Madonna has proudly worn her support of Spears in the past, often spotted sporting a Britney Spears t-shirt. The material girl even gave Britney a $15,000 diamond "B" necklace before the VMAs. Madonna has a matching "M" necklace. Baker says, "I think she feels very maternal toward Britney, almost like she's passing the torch."

"Extra" spotted Britney Tuesday morning leaving Madonna's hometown of London with a new souvenir-- a mysterious bandage on her right foot.

Us Weekly also reveals that Jennifer Lopez was asked to perform in Madonna and Britney's kiss off, but Jennifer blocked the idea because she didn't want to wear a wedding dress so close to her actual wedding date with Ben Affleck. Us Weekly hits stands on Friday.
